This cozy studio cottage (lovingly called the Writer's Cottage) at Stemple Creek Ranch is a sweet retreat. The Writer’s Cottage is in the same vicinity on the ranch as our event barn, the Schoolhouse, and the Cabin. Zia’s Farmhouse is about 1 mile away. 

The studio cottage is a refurbished small barn and has a queen-sized bed, brand new floors, writing desk. Cozy chair, small kitchenette, half bath (open to the room), and a private backyard space with an outdoor shower, seating, and gas grill. 


The ranch is just a few miles from the town of Tomales, less than one mile Shoreline Highway (Highway 1), and a great home base for both Marin and Sonoma Counties.

Please note: No pets, no smoking, no open flames. This is a working ranch and we have an employee that lives close to this house. Please note that you will likely see our employees and guests on the ranch and will see and hear cars, trucks, and the operations of a working family ranch.

If you are looking to host an event or do commercial/professional photography, please contact us first. Renting this house does not allow you to have a party or event on site. Maximum occupancy for the Writer’s Cottage is 2 guests at all times.

Beautiful place to stay! Cozy, clean, and you can hear all the farm animals in the quiet of the country. Highly recommend! Felt safe. Enjoyed the outdoor shower and drinking complimentary coffee on the private, back porch with all the pretty flowers on the property.

This cottage is an extraordinary stay for anyone looking for a privately tranquil, intimately cozy, practically simple home for the night. This cottage is placed in the rear portion of a complex of buildings comprising a very organized ranch with a long driveway well separated from other properties surrounded by green pastures and livestock. Lisa is very clear with instructions and the cottage is easy to find after your day’s adventure to the ocean, Point Reyes Station, or hike in the headlands, you name it! We enjoyed complete silence here with the darkest starry skies and the greenest landscape in the morning. The cottage provides pamphlets and maps for local foods and activities, it has a simple bathroom and simple kitchen, but it was exactly what we wanted. The most fun amenity was the outdoor shower with hot water while we watched the birds in the rain. Definitely worth staying here if visiting near Bodega and Point Reyes!

What a lovely little cabin in a completely idyllic setting! Loved having a view of the sheep while taking a shower in the morning! There are multiple rentals on the property but they are spaced well apart and I appreciated that the hosts encourage everyone to respect each other's privacy. Wish I could have stayed longer!

A gorgeous place to get away for a day! My partner and I wanted to stay somewhere by the beach and this place was perfect! The cabin was so cozy. You could shower outside under starlight and the flowers outside are gorgeous. Absolutely want to come again!

Thank you for the stay. The cabin is beautiful and the area is quiet. We made a decision to stay and make dinner there, it was great. We would to come back in warmer weather. We had everything we needed and whatever was missing was immediately provided for. Above all we had the most amazing experience with the help that was provided so we always felt taken care of. We definitely appreciate and will remember our stay as one of the best experiences we had as far as having a getaway goes.
